Here are a couple of reviews of the match against DC in the first game for RSL at the Carolina Challenge Cup:

DC United off to Disastrous start in Carolina Challenge Cup

“United did manage to get to halftime level at 0-0 in spite of their troubles. However it only took five minutes after the restart before Real Salt Lake were on the board with a header that slipped past Platter.”

“Real Salt Lake put the match to rest in the 76th minute when Clint Mathis’ lobbed pass found the foot of Yura Movsisyan who dispatched past Platter for the 2-0 lead.”

Behind the Badge

“Four minutes in, Raphael Cox corralled the ball deep in United’s left corner of the field. The midfielder lofted a cross to the near post for Luis Escalada. The forward’s diving header re-directed the ball to the far post, past a helpless Platter, striking the woodwork before deflecting into the back of the net.”

“In the 76th minute, Salt Lake doubled their lead when Clint Mathis gathered the ball near midfield and lofted a chip over the United defense to Yura Movsisyan. In alone on goal, Movsisyan struck the bouncing ball with his first touch over an approaching Platter and into the back of the net.”

RSL open Carolina Challenge Cup with 3-0 win

“The RSL defense was certainly up to task, limiting the United opportunities to just a pair of shots from Clyde Simms and Fred in a choppy first half.”

“In the 88th minute, it was Osci dragged down at the top of the box on a breakaway by United defender Anthony Peters, who was issued the second red card of the night. Williams stepped up and curled a scintillating free kick over the wall, past a helpless, flat-footed 'keeper and into the opposite upper 90 to determine the game's final 3-0 margin.”
