RSL Statement on Nelson Gonzalez

Here is a statement about Real Salt Lake’s reported interest in midfielder Nelson Gonzalez:

Garth Lagerwey, General Manager of Real Salt Lake confirmed today that the team has an interest in Nelson Ezequiel Gonzalez, a 20-year-old midfielder currently with Quilmes in Argentina.

“We have extended an invitation to Gonzalez to visit Salt Lake, and we look forward to meeting him. Jason Kreis and I scouted him when we were in South America last winter, and are impressed with his potential.”

Although there was no further comment from the club, this article from Diario El Sol indicates that Gonzalez will join Real Salt Lake on a loan agreement. It would be likely that he would join the team within a few weeks pending visa approval.

CORRECTION: The 5’6”, 154 lb Gonzalez is a 20 year-old midfielder and is an attacking player who will be an asset as a wide player in the 4-3-3. Previous reports about a defensive midfielder/defender were about another Argentine player also named Nelson Gonzalez (my Spanish Google research failed me).
