A Caution About Acquisitions

We know that RSL is targeting 1 or 2 attacking players. And apparently have a couple in their sights as they have made one offer and are close to making another. Soon we may have names to go with this.

I'm a little puzzled about the available cap space to make these moves, but we'll have to see the level of these players, and what their salary structure. Maybe the team had a substantial amount set aside for re-signing Yura.

Garth mentioned that the integration of a foreign player may take more time this year, because of the language barrier. Last year RSL's summer acquisitions were all English speakers. He was NOT indicating that they needed to bring in an English speaker as implied in this article in the Trib.

Speaking of last year, remember that RSL received alot of criticism for doing very little in the window with the additions of Russell, Johnson, and Mathis. RSL fans seemed to have the opinion that all the other teams were doing good things, but that RSL's acquisitions were a disappointment. However, I think time has shown that RSL had one of the most productive transfer windows in the league last year.

We've already heard the buzz about Colorado, with acquisitions of striker Fercundo Diz, winger Jamie Smith, and defender Julien Baudet. The Galaxy signed midfielder Chris Birchall. Toronto has reportedly offered Canadian National Team midfielder, Julian de Guzman $7M per year. San Jose is reportedly after T&T midfielder Densill Theobold.

So what does all this mean? Absolutely nothing until we see these players on the pitch with their respective teams. Many times, there is an illogical hype that comes with these players that we know either nothing or very little about.
