Marcia Williams Fundraiser

Judge/Juan Diego High School Soccer Benefit
for the benefit of Marcia Williams
September 30, 2008

A very worthwhile benefit for Andy Williams wife Marcia took place tonight at Juan Diego High School. What was initially scheduled to be another match in a bitter rivalry between Juan Diego and Judge girls soccer teams was instead replaced for this charitable benefit on behalf of Marcia who is battling a rare form of Leukemia.

There were many members of the Real Salt Lake "family" in attendance. The event featured first a 20-minute match between the Judge and Juan Diego boys soccer teams which included the opposing schools girls' teams as the coaches. A couple of Real Salt Lake reserves were also sprinkled into the mix. The match ended in a scoreless draw.

The second match was a battle between the two rival schools girls programs. This was much more serious and intense than the matches that it was sandwiched between. The Judge girls won this match 1-0 on a breakaway goal.

The final match (and main event) was a match between Real Salt Lake players (past and present), Real Salt Lake coaches and staff, and some local celebrities as well. This ended scoreless as well with Jacqui Rimando stealing the show as she repeatedly took on David Horst and managed some nice shots. The game was won 3-2 on penalty kicks on a questionable game winner by Nicea DeGering from Good Things Utah, which keeper Andy Williams appeared to short-arm.

The finale was a concert set put on by current Real Salt Lake teammates Chris Wingert, Nik Besagno, and Kyle Beckerman along with former RSL player Seth Trembly and their friend (and serious musician) Marshall Paul.
