RMC Smackdown

RMC Smackdown

With the impending clash of our beloved Real Salt Lake and the much hated Crapids, we thought it would be fun to take a few shots at the enemy. First up, Donk lobs some missiles over the Wasatch Front. If you like Donk's thoughts you can read more of his opinions here - Donk's Blog.

It's that time of the season again when an unmistakable smell wafts over the Wasatch from the east. Yes, the smell of the Colorado cRapids and their team who's been shut out in 3 of their last four matches. For once that smell does not include the stench from on Fernando Clavijo who the cRapids mercifully "came to a mutually amicable agreement" with and will no longer be around when the 2 tons of maggot dropping that used to be his team come calling. This is unfortunate for RSL though, we could always count of Fernando to pull the trigger on some monumental trade that sent RSL half the usable talent on their team for a couple of beads, an inflatable companionship goat and a jar of Vaseline.

I guess that is forgivable since Kronke and company are really more interested in Arsenal (got to take it up the Arse) than the team who just takes up space in their new concert venue that was built on the remains of on of the military's premier nuclear dumping grounds. What's up with the roof of that anyway, I know they cut every corner they could when it came to building costs, but you would think they would at least rise above having a few pieces of sheet metal for a roof. Of course, Denver is just little more than a third-world country anyway, so I guess it fits. I do believe that they are looking to book Simon and Garfunkel for the next concert there, afterall, where else can you hear the "Sound of Silence" than at the Dick? At least RSL fans don't consistently get out sung at their own house. Given how it seems that KSE's brownshirts do not seem to like anyone doing anything but buying a ticket, sitting for 90 minutes, and and making a sound, I can't help but wonder where all the parents of the "supporter's groups" have gone? Aren't AYSO teams supposed to come accompanied by an adult?

What is it with Denver's professional sports teams anyway, why is it that they all seem to require anti-psychotic medications and shock treatment? While Pablo could certainly benefit from having a few thousand volts run through him, he's nowhere near as crazy as anyone who plays for the Nuggets.

Now, keep your eyes out at View From the Couch to see if those weenies respond.

Daily Update: Monday May 19, 2008

With a lack of news in the Real Salt Lake world this morning, this update has a theme:

REAL FRUSTRATION (a trip around the RSL blogosphere) .................

OBTCz - Back to the Future -> AYL Soccet/Jacob Hart
Why, a defensive clearance that doesn't make it out of the 18-yard-box because it was played directly to the feet of an opposing forward? Normal. But why does Matt Behncke have long black hair? Is that Matias Behncke?

The Stack Report v. 8 -> AYL Soccer/Scott Black
After the horror show match in Denver last night, Real Salt Lake is back to a 1.0 point per game average. They had an opportunity to be at 1.375 points per game and be in first place in the Western Conference for the first time in their 3+ years of existence. That would have probably caused a rip in the universe so it was not meant to be.

Season Stats -> The Fans Scorecard

Excuse me Sir? That's what I ordered. - The Mind of Scads
When I look at the standings there is one surprise that seems to stand out. The Columbus Crew. Is there anybody else that looks at their placement thinking..."Wait a minute", that was supposed to be us!

Post cRapids thoughts -> Donk's Blog
RSL always seems to have a deer in the headlights look about them on the road. I don't know why this is and have suspicions that its because they are content to play for the draw. Really both teams didn't play that well. As some have described the nasty rivalry that is the Rocky Mountain Cup, it was a cripple fight to make South Park proud.

My Empty Cup -> RSL Boz
Could it be all of the prior seasons of disappointment that hold me back? Is it the numerous mistakes this fledgling club has made and will possibly continue to make until the right management steps in? Is it because I know they will play like beaten dogs every time they go out on the road? Is it because Jason Kreis is on thin ice, or should be but isn’t, or maybe he is but shouldn't be? Will Kreis be drowning in his own excuses much too long like Ellinger did before Uncle Dave mercifully pulled the trigger on the poor sap? Is it simply because I know it's better to remain strong, yet humble in victory, than it is to gloat?

Game 8: Rocky Mountain Disaster -> The Royal Review
RSL looked like they could finally get their act together on the road in the first half. They were able to string passes together and hold possession. The defense was shaky at times but held. However, when they were unable to get a goal to really set the tone, I got worried about what may happen in the 2nd half. Boy, was I right on that one... Anyway, a decent, but entirely pedestrian effort in the first half.

Weekend Preview: Sorting Through The Week 8 Mess -> WV Hooligan
So far, week eight in Major League Soccer has already gone off with a bang. Colorado easily handled their Rocky Mountain Cup rivals 2-0 last night. I didn’t get to see a whole lot of the game (I was busy watching The Office season finale) but what I did see was a very good performance by the Rapids and another weak road performance by Real Salt Lake.

Morning Update Sunday April 20,2008

THE MORNING AFTER...
KREIS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS?
"The home side didn't pressure the ball like the visitors expected, and by the time RSL made the appropriate adjustments at halftime it already trailed 1-0, and Toronto bunkered in nicely in the second half and made the result hold up.
I fault myself completely for that. I was really expecting a little bit of a different response from Toronto, I thought they would be all over us, I thought they'd be high-pressing us and they weren't," said Kreis, whose team fell to 1-2-1 on the season with the loss." -> FULL STORY: DESERET NEWS
ESPINDOLA FAILED FITNESS TEST KEEPS HIM FROM MATCH
"LATE SCRATCH: Fabian Espindola took it easy with his strained hamstring all week in hopes of making his second straight start on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Argentine striker he failed a fitness test during Friday's training session in Toronto and the coaching staff opted to go with Robbie Findley instead."
"Sturgis left the stadium on crutches as a precaution and wasn't sure about his time frame for a return, even though two to four weeks seems like a realistic guess. The holding midfielder said his hamstring had been tight in training all the week, and he ultimately injured it on an innocent lunge for the ball at midfield." -> FULL STORY: DESERET NEWS (GAME NOTES)
