As reported first here on KIR (you gotta love Twitter), Javier Morales and Kyle Beckerman have been named to the 2009 MLS All-Star roster. It's not clear if these are coaches picks or commisioner picks, but we'll know shortly.
Javier seemed surprised and very pleased about this announcement. He was surprised because he doesn't feel like he got off to a good start this season. He is also glad to have "my teammate and friend" Kyle Beckerman on the team with him.
Another aspect that he is excited about is playing alongside countryman Guillermo Barros Schelotto who he looked up to when he was a young player. Javier indicated that he had a number of on-the-field battles with Schelotto in Argentina and it will be good to be able to be on his side at last.
Coach Kreis was a little surprised that both were named to the team, but feels that both are deserving (as well as others on the team). He said that now as a coach he just hopes that neither "play more than 15 minutes".
The week could be a busy one for Kyle Beckerman should the US advance to the Gold Cup finals on July 26th (held in New Jersey), after the semifinal to be held on July 23rd. He would then be shuttled back to Salt Lake for the All-Star game on July 29th.
