Keepin' It Real has learned that Kyle Beckerman will join the US team in the upcoming Gold Cup competition. An official announcement is expected on Thursday. Beckerman will remain with Real Salt Lake for this weekends match against Toronto but will leave sometime next week.
This leaves RSL with a dearth of central midfielders. Will Johnson, Andy Williams, Jean Alexander and now Kyle Beckerman will all miss at least two games starting next weekend with Johnson and Alexander also missing this weekends match. What does this mean for RSL? They could employ Grabavoy and Mathis in holding roles, with Findley, Movsisyan, and Espindola up top and Morales in the attacking mid role. In addition, they could also introduce Cox in the mix. Or they could move Russell up to a holding midfield role (after this week when Olave serves his suspension). This would mean Beltran and Wingert at outside back unless Joy is brought into the lineup.
