Christian Vieri trial with the Galaxy

Much travelled and oft-tempestuous Italian striker Christian Vieri is en route to LA for a trial with the Galaxy following his recent public divorce with Atalanta. While a bit long in the tooth, frequently injured and a headache off the pitch, the striker is full of talent and could score some goals in this league. However it's unfathomable that the Galaxy would put a striker at the top of their list with the rickety backline that they field. It's also hard to understand how this would be a fit from a salary cap stance as I would assume that he won't be coming for chump change.
