Commissioner Garber will be in attendance for the playoff opener at Rio Tinto, and will field questions from the media prior to the match.
Speaking of media, the coverage is expected to be as extensive for this match as it was for the opener of the stadium. All major outlets are expected to be in attendance.
Thurl Bailey will be singing the anthem for the event.
Of course don't miss the dollar hot dogs between 2:30 and 3:30 prior to the match.
There will be a formal presentation of the Rocky Mountain Cup by the supporters/fans to team Captain Kyle Beckerman prior to the match.
So far approximately 1/2 of the 20,008 seats have been sold for the playoff match. I would expect the team is disappointed by this, but keep these facts in mind:
- For the other 3 matches in New York, New England and Kansas City they have reportedly only sold around 5,000 seats to this point.
- The MLS postseason average is only around 11,000 which includes the MLS Cup which always does well.
Here are some reasons for the poor performance of playoff ticket sales around the league:
- Short window after the season to sell tickets.
- Competition with college football matches and the start of the basketball season.
- Better access to the games on national TV.
- Colder weather.
