Behind the Shield is reporting that the team has purchased the contract of Argentine midfielder Javier Morales, and extended the agreement through 2012. This is a significant development as the team has two challenges immediately before them: trying to make the playoffs for the first time in history, and trying to keep the core of talented young players together to build upon for the future. Of course terms were not disclosed, but the buyout was originally reported by Garth Lagerway to be "very, very high".
Morales came to Real Salt Lake midway through the 2007 season on loan (I believe from Arsenal de Sarandi), and has become an important playmaker for the team, currently with 10 assists (second in MLS).
