Ives Galarcep is reporting that RSL is making a deal with Chicago to acquire Will Johnson. Keepin' It Real will try to confirm this.
The Canadian national team player has had limited success in club play, but has been a terror recently with the national team.
He left the MLS prior to the 2006 season when he was only offered a developmental contract and made a move to Heerenveen where he had limited success. Most recently he was out on loan to De Gratschaapf where he scored just 2 goals in 25 appearances.
Word is that the 21 year old striker is a brash, confident player but has alot of skills. He can be a wide player which may be part of the draw for RSL as the team gets set to make the move to a new stadium which will include a wider pitch than currently at Rice Eccles Stadium.
Here is an article about Johnson at the U-20 World Cup.
Johnson plays for Canada, was born in the Toronto then moved to the UK, but at one point called Woodridge, Il home after moving there at the age of 10. I assume that he has US residency (a green card) and will not take up an international spot.
Here is a profile of Johnson.
And a video profile.
Will was named to the Best XI of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament.
